Eurotunnel Freight Border Pass

Eurotunnel Border Pass is an innovative and unique service that enables transport companies and their goods to cross the border in a fast and efficient way.

It allows the necessary information to be transferred from the hauliers to Eurotunnel, and then to the authorities in both countries, in a secure and digital way.

How the Border Pass works and other useful information

Benefit from many advantages

  • Dedicated lanes for Border Pass users
  • A fast and hassle-free journey. Drivers save a considerable amount of time on the terminals as their vehicles are automatically identified on arrival.
  • A flexible and convenient online tool. A Border Pass can be created and/or amended up to 30-minutes before arrival on our terminal.
  • A reliable and efficient border crossing. The information is directly submitted from your support teams and available in Eurotunnel systems on arrival, so drivers do not have to present any border documents at Pit stops.

Border requirements – General information

  • Customs declarations are mandatory when transporting goods between the UK and EU. Please ensure that you have all the documentation required before crossing the border.
  • In addition to the existing border requirements, a GMR is now MANDATORY for ALL GB to EU and EU to GB transports, including for EMPTY vehicles.

Important

  • The vehicle tractor registration number must be registered in the GMR in section 2 “About your vehicle” (not the trailer).
  • The tractor registration number arriving on the terminal MUST match the one recorded in the GMR.

If the GMR is invalid, the vehicle will be refused travel.

  • GVMS barcode requirements for all customs declarations (read more).
  • Exit summary declarations came into effect on 1 October 2021

Carriage of Dangerous Goods

The Channel Tunnel has been designed to be one of the safest transport systems. When it comes to dangerous goods transportation, a wide variety of goods classified as ‘dangerous’ can be carried with Eurotunnel Le Shuttle Freight, subject to strict regulations.

All account holders can download Eurotunnel’s dangerous goods policy by using their online access, which provides all the necessary information about the transport of dangerous goods.

They can also access useful information via our online guides to ensure that any dangerous goods regulations are adhered to before travel. If you are not an account holder and you would like information on transporting dangerous goods with Eurotunnel Le Shuttle Freight or if you would like to order an electronic copy of the practical guide, please contact our Freight Commercial Department

Your vehicles can carry dangerous goods in accordance with Eurotunnel’s Policy

In order to save time, account holders may declare their dangerous goods in advance by logging onto their online account.

What to do on arrival

All dangerous goods must be declared and accompanied with paperwork, unless transported in Limited Quantities.

The process is fast and efficient, so to avoid any unnecessary delays with your dangerous goods transport, it is essential that all paperwork is legible and always includes the following information:

  • UN number
  • Current ADR references (Class, Packing Group & Classification Code, if required)
  • Proper Shipping Name of goods carried (including their volume or weight)
  • Details of packaging (number and description)
  • Quantity (net / gross mass as appropriate)

Prior to the vehicle’s arrival, customers must ensure that their driver has the full dangerous goods declaration.

At the Freight Driver Centres

Drivers will be issued a “DG” sticker. It is important that it be displayed in the vehicles’ windscreens at all times as they are positioned on the freight shuttles accordingly. Failure to do so will result in delays for both your own loads and other customers’ as all the vehicles will need to be exited from the shuttle and re-positioned.

Still having queries about the carriage of dangerous goods on our truck shuttles? Eurotunnel’s support team are on hand to talk through your needs and any questions you may have.

CUSTOMS CLEARANCE

Will I require customs clearance?

All goods destined for or originating from a non-EU country will require UK customs clearance, which is a compulsory process, which all drivers will be required to comply with in order to use the Eurotunnel le shuttle.

What UK customs clearance will I need?

All drivers will need to provide their shipping document, supplier’s commercial invoice and packing list.

Depending on the goods you are carrying, you may be required to present additional information, such as a certificate of origin, preference certificates or a certificate of authenticity.

Drivers should always check in advance what documentation is required for customs clearance in order to avoid unnecessary delays.

Where is my nearest UK customs office?

Goods can be processed at Stop 24 Folkestone services located at junction 11 off the M20.
